By a miracle of divine grace, my parents gifted our home with Jazz music. From Kind of Blue to Sketches of Spain, and beyond Bitches’ Brew, so many emotions were shared by Miles Davis and other Masters of the time. In a time of fast beats and pop charts, I grew up hearing these heart felt expressions. I later came to see that such works are not so common.
In the recordings and life-story of Miles Davis, a higher view of humanity is kindled within my imagination. Our culture, perhaps has lacked the freedom to do that for us. In calm wisdom, we can laugh it off, as a fashion change, and dance a skip back. Back to a future of Dance Hall Days and Time after Time..
The courage that Mr. Davis showed in expressing his emotions, so openly, also reflects the air of a prior wilder human time. Before money and after money, the adventures and the music live on for us. Beloved treasures, like Jazz records or the work of other Great Artists in our time, show us how to invest in the future generations with our legacy.
Where I got lucky and heard Chet Baker, people I knew once were maybe more familiar with Chet Faker. The jokes on me, I guess. Who knows, maybe someday the Milky Bars, too? As our self respect and vision grow far beyond past contrast, we start sensing our abundance in God. Stepping into more appreciation, we align to abundant balance like blooming flowers in the garden of the Empress.
As we see in the work of Jazz-masters of the past, a similar fire of innovation blazed in the visual-artists, cinematographers and designers of those times. That open mindedness, like a Jazz track that’s free to meander around the periphery of association, seems able to innovate towards any fair goal. We all know our world must be sustainable, and we also sense this will mean consuming less. However, in fairness, we also know that we have had too much choice taken away from us in the past.
So where does that leave us? In the captains chair of our fate, of course! As always, we are the mature custodians of our Earthly home. How will we reflect this? This is a test, so far, we appear to be a bit slow on the take with. Yet, we know we must make it happen, sooner rather than later.
Let’s make an account of ourselves that honors the gifts we are blessed with by the ancestors. Some Miles Davis to start?
