Shine On You Crazy Butterflies

In the turning of a page within our collective mindset, we have a chance to differentiate yesterday from tomorrow. In the wisdom gained from past times, we move in smarter ways than we might have before. The revolutions and battles that held structures in place, or uprooted them, were too often not worth the struggle for the generations that knew them personally. Each day has its own share of difficulty enough, as Jesus reminds us, let us not welcome undue pain or chaos in inevitable times of change.

I propose we get more creative. Switching the poles, on the map at least, is a fairly arbitrary and yet significant enough change so that future generations will see in retrospect that a change has taken place. It may be expensive, but it needn’t be so sudden. In our general refurbishment of the old, we could actively institute the update.

Or, Perhaps, we could finally make many people’s dreams come true and give them all an extra day every week. If we moved to an eight-day week, people may be able to restructure their routines and invest fruitfully in a new kind of community. If we were to successfully balance this with a technologically assisted reduced working week, people could find liberation from their labour and celebrate personal or collective creative projects.

We could also reconsider the way we name and structure our calendar. Not to take any shine away from traditional ways, but we are moving into an age where Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and many other paths of ethical living, approach a shared level of love energy. In re-arranging the calendar, either from a different date, or around the living day of the moment, or simply with refreshed naming, we could signify a new era without significant upheaval.

Whichever way we decide to use our free will, we could take this chance to adopt a sense of collaboration, and reinforce the bonds that hold us together so we can set our sights united and uplifted towards the path ahead. A change is perhaps the only constant we can depend upon as humans in our world. Let’s embrace this journey as a creative labour of love, and celebrate our success by moving consciously away from the things that have held us back in the past.
